About Artist:

賴詩鑒 Lai Shi-Jyan, born in 1993 in Fujian, China, currently resides in Shanghai, and graduated from the Oil Painting Department of Minzu University of China. In 2016, he operated VACUUM GALLERYY in Beijing, supporting emerging artists' exhibition practices through this art space. During this period, he also engaged in artistic creation and participated in exhibitions organized by other institutions. Currently, he works at an advertising company.

His motivation for painting stems from contemplation on his own life: Who am I the son of? What flows through my veins? Where is my desire leading me? These questions became particularly significant after he started working in a foreign land, intertwining longing and fantasy for his homeland and ancestry, which characterized his creative period from 2017 to 2023 with bitterness and beauty. This led to contemplations on life and death, love and affection, poverty and wealth, betrayal and honor.
